Norfolk Farming Conference – The Best Yet « Back

The 2010 Norfolk Farming Conference held at the John Innes Centre on 25th February was another sell-out event and the feedback from delegates was most encouraging with the majority saying it was the best yet.

Keynote speaker Professor Allan Buckwell told farmers that land management and environmental interests must jointly make a case for funding rather than for food security alone. Market strategist Neil Parker from RBS gave an insight into potential growth within the UK and Andrew Dewing of Dewing Grain managed to bring humour into market volatility. Anglia Farmers chief executive Clarke Willis outlined the latest AF AgInflation figures and how commodities are affected.

An insight into the businesses of four new generation farmers - Rob Mutimer, Ed Wharton, Algy Garrod and Alastair Kerr – showed how they have diversified and are taking the family farms forward. The presentations and DVD films are available on the Norfolk Farming Conference www.norfolkfarmingconference.org

The election question time covered a range of controversial topics. Panellists - Jim Paice (Conservative), Charles Clarke (Labour), Stuart Agnew (UKIP), Norman Lamb (Liberal Democrat) and Martin Haworth (NFU) tackled questions on climate change, environment versus food, GM or the preferred term biotech crops, profit margins and the need for a retailer ombudsman and TB.

Next year’s conference is being held on 24 February 2011.
