The Wheatsheaf Ball Raised a Whopping £65,000! « Back

The Royal Norfolk Show’s ‘Wheatsheaf Ball,’ organised by members of the farming community, raised a staggering £65,000, of which £55,000 will be going directly to the new YANA charity and the remainder to the Norfolk Countrysiders.

The raffle to win a Freelander, which raised over £3,000 of this total, was also to help raise funds for the YANA Project, (You Are Not Alone) which aims to promote awareness of mental wellbeing and offer support and guidance to the services available.

Committee members chose YANA as they are determined to raise the profile of depression and mental health within the agricultural community, which is among the high risk groups for depression.

Rob Richardson, chairman of The Wheatsheaf Ball Committee said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated money, attended the ball and especially to all our sponsors and those who have supported raising money for YANA. In particular, we would like to thank Anglia Farmers Ltd who generously gave money and time, helping to make The Wheatsheaf Ball a roaring success. After the ball we had many complimentary letters about what a fantastic event it was!”

Ches Broom from the Norfolk YFC and Countrysiders said: “We are overjoyed that the Wheatsheaf Ball Committee has made such a generous donation to Norfolk Countrysiders. The emphasis for the Ball was always on YANA as the main charity, but with such a successful event it is fantastic to have received such a substantial contribution. We shall be using the funds to further promote and develop the Norfolk Countrysiders; the junior arm of Norfolk YFC, supporting rural young people and future generations of farmers. Thank you to all those involved, attending and contributing to the 2009 Wheatsheaf Ball.”

A spokesperson on behalf of YANA said: “We are thrilled with this staggering amount of money raised. This money will enable YANA to provide support to those suffering from the signs or symptoms of depression and it will also help to continue to raise the profile of this illness and the YANA project and where to get help within Norfolk.”
