Supplied through Anglia Farmers by Witham Oil & Paint, the Qualube colour-coded tank system is revolutionising the way farmers buy and store their lubricants.
A recent installation at the South Pickenham Estate Company near Swaffham, Norfolk has transformed the workshop on the 7,000-acre holding. The fleet - which includeseight tractors ranging from 140 horsepower through to 500 horsepower, two teleporters and two combines- needs a wide range of lubricants.
“Our system takes away the clutter of barrels and the guesswork,” said Nigel Bottom, managing director of Witham Oil & Paint. “We provide a free survey of all machinery and make sure that our recommendations meet manufacturer warranty specifications. We then install the colour-coded tanks for free and top them up with respective oils from our Qualube range. Feedback is excellent and one of the many benefits is that it removes the disposal issues associated with empty barrels.”
The four 450 litre tanks at South Pickenham provide tractor back end oil, engine oil, gear oil and hydraulic oil. In addition, each tank has its own colour-coded jug to aid correct oil selection.
Ian George, assistant manager at the South Pickenham Estate Company, has noticed a number of benefits already:
“This system is so much tidier and easier than using drums with a crank handle and siphon pump. Manual handling has been eliminated too and all the tanks are bunded so any spillages remain contained. The sight gauges and gas ball valve taps make it easy to monitor stocking levels.
“The survey which Michael Guy from Witham Oil & Paint prepared is really useful and we can easily add new machines to it. It’s simplified our systems. And, of course, purchasing through Anglia Farmers, attracts cost benefits.”
