AF launches innovative new internet service 26 Jan 2012
In a bid to improve rural broadband Anglia Farmers has launched an innovative new internet service – ThinkingWISP - through its consumer facing subsidiary company, AF Affinity. The move (which is a partnership with Intouch Systems and the Norfolk Rural Community Council) uses the latest wireless technology to transmit broadband to communities in the Marsham and Aylsham area, giving a fast and reliable service.

Say Yes to Better Broadband 25 Jan 2012
Norfolk County Council has secured significant funding from the Government to improve broadband speeds and access across Norfolk, but they still need to attract competitive bids from the telecoms companies who will install the new infrastructure. To show the demand for the internet services the ‘Say Yes to Better Broadband' campaign has been launched, which is asking businesses and individuals to register their interest in better broadband.

RS Cross and Son win Ian MacNicol Farm Conservation Award 12 Dec 2011
The very best in wildlife friendly farming was celebrated at the Ian MacNicol Farm Conservation Award on 7 December. RS Cross and Son of Abbey Farm, Flitcham won the award, which was presented in front of an audience of more than 70 people at Beeches Farm Barn, Wymondham. Robert Hambidge’s farm at Pudding Norton, near Fakenham came a close second. The awards also marked a new era for conservation in Norfolk, following the launch of the member owned company, Farm Conservation Limited.

LIFELINE AS NORFOLK FWAG CREATES NOT-FOR-PROFIT BUSINESS 1 Dec 2011
Following the announcement on 18 November that charitable organisation Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) has gone into administration, the Norfolk branch has taken positive steps by forming a company limited by guarantee. The new member-owned company is a not-for-profit organisation with surplus income being ploughed back into the business.

STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND NORFOLK FARMING CONFERENCE 10 Nov 2011
Organisers and sponsors of next year’s Norfolk Farming Conference have unanimously agreed to discount tickets for students for the first time.  The full rate ticket price of £45 (+ VAT) will be offered at £25 (+ VAT) to members of young farmers’ clubs and to registered students.  In addition, ten free tickets will be allocated to Norfolk Young Farmers and Easton College for a full day’s attendance.

Battle of the Bangers proves a huge success 12 Sep 2011
Over 4,000 people attended the Battle of the Bangers outside the Forum on Saturday. The event, which was sponsored by AF and the Red Cat Partnership as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Food Festival, gave the public the chance to try sausages from five local butchers and vote for their favorites. Archers of Norwich won the ‘public vote’, while ‘the sponsors’ choice’ went to Brambles Farm of Briston. Both butchers were awarded a commemorative meat cleaver by AF CEO, Clarke Willis.

Anglia Farmers AgInflation Index confirms what the industry is thinking 1 Sep 2011
Annual results from the Anglia Farmers AgInflation Index show that the input costs for producing food by farmers and growers are up by 12.98% in the twelve months to the end of August 2011. Individual enterprises show the cost of producing combinable crops has risen by 13.33% in the same period. This increase lies marginally ahead of other enterprises such as dairy (+12.29%), sugar beet (+11.63%), beef and lamb (+11.24%) and potatoes (+10.45%).

The PS and JE Ward farm walk, in Terrington St Clement near Kings Lynn proved a big hit for around 60 members who enjoyed a well organised farm tour and a great social occasion. The fenland farm, who are proud to ‘practise horticulture on an agricultural scale’, grow asters, gladioli, stocks, peonies, tulips and daffodils for supermarkets and the wholesale industry.

Farm Safety Month was launched at the Suffolk Show yesterday (1 June) in an attempt to improve safety levels on farms across the East of England. Renewables conference generates an energetic response from members 31 May 2011
Around fifty members and invited guests from Norfolk County Farms packed the AF offices on Wed 25 May for a renewables conference with industry experts speaking about the merits of wind turbines, solar energy PV’s and biomass boilers. The evening culminated with an on-site wind turbine demonstration from Windcrop as well as a very popular hog roast with real ale from the Beeston Brewery.

This month, AF Building Key Account Manager, Richard Bradford, visits show jumper, Laura Taylor, at The Paddocks in Congham near Kings Lynn. Laura is building an international size horse manege, along with six stables and six paddocks to provide an impressive facility to help her break and breed horses. The AF building team have sourced many of the materials for the development and Laura explained that the team have “saved a fortune” in the process.
